2016 has been excellent for Marathi cinema. “Natsamrat” earlier this year and now “Sairat” has surpassed all previous records and crossed the 65 crore mark in just three weeks. The movie is now entering its fourth week and is playing on 525 screens. The film was released on 1200 screens across Maharashtra.

The film started its golden run from the beginning when it raked in Rs 25 crore in the first week.

It was the highest collection for any Marathi movie ever. The earnings swelled to 41 crores in the second week and by the end of the third week it touched Rs 65 crores, and it is still going strong.

The film is set in the caste-ridden Bittergaon of Maharastra near Solapur.

The story of two lovebirds struggling against a deeply entrenched and caste divided society has been beautifully woven by Director Nagraj Manjule. Akash Thosar and Rinku Rajguru are the lead characters in the flick.

The music have been composed by Ajay-Atul, and it was already popular before the film’s release.

Akash and Rinku have given their best in the movie even though it is their debut. Rinku donned the role of Archie, a feisty village girl who rebels against society to marry her love with aplomb. She has performed very well in the movie. The film highlights the bane of honor killings in the caste-ridden Maharashtra society.
