Samsung has confirmed the launch date of their new Galaxy S7 smartphone in Europe. The company have reportedly already begun sending out invites for the unveiling, to take place on 21st February.
Samsung’s exclusive ‘Unpacked’ event will start one day before the beginning of the MWC (Mobile World Congress) in Barcelona, Spain.
Rumours and leaks are flying on the Internet surrounding price, spec and other details – it’s important to remember at this stage few details have are confirmed.
Concerning price, it seems the new and latest Galaxy model will not be cheap. Britain’s Daily Express website referred to Dutch tech blog Tweakers, who’d reportedly seen a list of prices for the upcoming models.
The prices were for the S7 and S7 Edge phones and ranged from 699 – 799 Euros respectively.
It seems certain, then, that alongside the Galaxy S7 flagship smartphone, the S7 Edge will be released at the same time.
Many in the industry saw Samsung as struggling before the release of their hugely successful S6 and S6 Edge. The powerful, sleek phones proved worthy rivals to the iPhone, so it’s now with a large anticipation that fans and investors await the next generation.
pcadvisor.co.uk make reference to a Samsung “source” which says UK consumers should be able to pre-order the devices between 21 February and 3 March.
They quote the same source as suggesting the UK first day of sales will be March 11, possibly the same day as the United States.
As for what the new phones will be capable of, techradar.com quoted coverage from the Korea Times. Another Samsung source spoke to the publication about improvement to the picture resolution, better performance, longer battery life and a much faster processing speed.
Other leaks detailing the technical specs for the phones seem to suggest they may have a measure of water resistance thrown into the offering. There’s plenty of speculation flying around, but it seems it won’t be long before all is revealed.
