Motorola publishes Kernel sources codes for its smartphones

The last weekend saw Motorola revealing some extremely important data. The mobile phone manufacturer published Android 4.4.4 KitKat kernel source codes for two of the latest smartphone models of the company, the Moto X (Gen 2) and the Moto G (Gen 2). The source codes are now available as GitHub property.

The world first came to know that Motorola is planning to publish these source codes around a week back when an employee of the company called ‘tags07’ commented on a particular segment of the MSM Kernel regarding the release. The employee wrote that the company has just posted kernel sources for the Moto X Gen 2, and the Moto G Gen 2’s codes are coming up next.

In the comment, the employee also revealed that Moto X Gen 2’s kernel source code has been codenamed as ‘Victara’, while the code name of kernel source codes for Moto G Gen 2 is ‘Titan’.

So, in what form these source codes are available now? These newly published source codes for the two Motorola smartphones can now be downloaded in the form of a typical browsable GitHub. You will get them either as tar files or as zip files.

The cell phone maker unveiled the two new models of the Moto G and Moto X close to a couple of months ago, in September to be more precise. Both these smartphones are equipped with the Android KitKat 4.4.4 operating system. Additionally, the company has said that soon they will be launching an Android Lollipop update for both these devices. Once that update is out, we will again see Motorola launching fresh kernel source codes for these two phones.

Motorola, however, has not revealed any information about the launch date of the Android Lollipop update for the Motor X Gen 2 and Moto G Gen2.
