Acura revamps ILX luxury sports Sedan

Acura made a splash at the LA Auto Show, unveiling a revamped version of the ILX luxury sports sedan in an effort to draw new customers into the luxury sport market segment. While it isn’t the most talked about segment, and while a vehicle remains the worst investment an individual could make in the modern-era, Acura still managed to turn heads, and really put on a nice show for fans of the automaker, and specifically the ILX sedan.

Everything from a new engine and transmission pairing to a boost in tech and safety features that have almost become standard amongst many vehicles. Right now, there isn’t an automaker in the market that isn’t paying attention to the safety features, as recalls have become as frequent as public safety announcements.

That being said, the company is finally embracing the idea that their customers and the vehicle operators are individuals who are frequently on smartphones, and other smart devices, and this vehicle like many combines the two very well. The blending of the two, with features like an upgraded dashboard and navigational commands, to an improvement where an app is used instead.

The Acura ILX brings a 2.4-liter direct-injected four-cylinder engine that brings 201 horsepower, with an eight-speed, dual-clutch transmission that is already found in the TLX. In fact, the engine is also found in the TLX, so in some ways – that was a disappointing fact with the latest ILX sports sedan. However, performance is not hindered at all, and for all intents and purposes it would appear as though the vehicle operates at an incredibly high-rate, even with what it has working from under the hood.

17-inch wheels, with 18-inch optional upgrades, and a trim that in general saw some tuning up from the outside – makes for a vehicle that is very attractive to the individual who is new to the luxury sport world. In fact, it sets up very nicely for Acura to enter the market in a strong way to attract buyers who might not otherwise consider some of the older players in the game – which require a significantly larger investment.

The Acura ILX is expected to hit dealerships in early 2015, but no notes yet have been released regarding the price point of the vehicle. Even though it would appear as though the company is working hard to impressive a lot of people, and make customers understand that this vehicle is very much about “bang-for-your-buck.”
