Wimbledon 2022: High-flying Kyrgios Presents Tsitsipas With An Early Challenge In Their Third-Round

Stefanos Tsitsipas’ fresh-found love for grass will be tested when the fourth-seeded Greek takes on the hot-shot Nick Kyrgios in today’s third-round match at Wimbledon.

Late in 2017, Tsitsipas defeated his opponent on the ATP Tour for the first time. The following year, he quickly rose to the ATP rankings. In 2018, he competed in three tour-level finals and scored his maiden victory at the Stockholm Open.

He broke the record for the youngest player to beat four top-ten opponents in a single tournament when he finished second at the 2018 Canadian Open. Tsitsipas has consistently ranked among the top 10 tennis players in the world since capping that season with an exhibition victory at the Next Gen ATP Finals.

He won the 2021 Monte-Carlo Masters, his first Masters 1000 competition, and successfully defended his title the following year. The 2019 Greek Male Athlete of the Year title went to Tsitsipas.

Last week, Tsitsipas won his first grasscourt championship in Mallorca. He has since carried that momentum into Wimbledon, displaying hints of the talent that has helped him succeed on other surfaces.

However, in the fiery Australian Kyrgios, Tsitsipas will face a competitor who enjoys playing on grass and has been in outstanding form. Kyrgios defeated Filip Krajinovic in straight sets in the previous round, registering 24 aces and 50 winners. In these courts, Nick has more victories over me. He says he like the grass.

‘something fantastic’

“I’m going to attempt to focus on doing my thing and give my own game my total concentration from beginning to end. I’m hoping I can stay there and accomplish something fantastic.

Before Wimbledon, the two-faced up at Halle, with the Australian emerging victorious and advancing his head-to-head record against Tsitsipas to 3-1.

“We’re two of the sport’s top stars. It should be wonderful to watch if we both play our best tennis, added Kyrgios, as reported by Gulfnews.
