Google started releasing the Developer Preview of Android 14 earlier this year. Since then, the company has rolled out multiple updates for the Developer Preview. Finally, in April, they launched the first Beta release of Android 14. And during the I/O 2023 event, Google released the second Public Beta version of Android 14 which will be available to select devices from different OEMs brand. But if you look at the list of supported devices, you may notice that Samsung is nowhere to be seen. So why isn’t Samsung included in Google’s announcement of the Android 14 Beta 2 update list? Before getting to the meat of the matter, let’s first look at the list of devices that are eligible for the Android 14 Beta 2 update.
The list contains smartphones and tablets from like Nothing, Tecno, OnePlus, iQOO, and even Lenovo.
At first glance, it may seem like Samsung is delaying its participation in the development of Android 14. But that’s actually not the case. The report suggests that the company is internally working and testing Android 14-based OneUI 6.0. Samsung is believed to be currently testing Android 14 for its latest flagships like Galaxy S23, Z Flip 4, and Z Fold 4.
Looking at the past trends of Samsung, the company is likely to announce the Android 14 based OneUI 6 Beta program in the third quarter of this year. Like most Android OEMs brand, the initial Beta updates will be rolled out to figure out if there are any bugs. And the company might roll out a stable OneUI 6 update in the fourth quarter of the year.
There is another possible reason for Samsung’s delay in launching the Beta version. Typically, non-Google Android OEMs that offer beta versions on the day of the release don’t include all the software features. They are basically stripped-down versions of their full-fledged software. For example, Nothing’s Android 14 Beta update doesn’t have support for Glyph Interface, Nothing’s Stock apps, and several other customization features.
But when it comes to Samsung, the company provides a nearly complete update to its phones in the Beta program. This ensures that you won’t miss out on any of the features you use in your regular usage. However, this thoroughness takes time, which might be the reason why Samsung is currently not included in the list of devices receiving the Android 14 Beta 2 Update.
