Samsung Corp. announced the world’s first ultra-high definition Blu-ray player during the annual IFA 2015 event in Berlin. Samsung was expected to introduce yet another iteration of Samsung Galaxy series but added the Gear and now the UHD Blu-ray player. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that people have already stopped buying the movie disks, and this Samsung product may seem a bit useless.
Talking about the design, it is a long almost flat design coming in all black with dark gray edges. The top right corner features power and other features LEDs. The design feels that of premium material and will sit perfectly with the TV set.
It has been equipped with color expressions that are 64 times higher than the standard Blu-ray players. Apart from this we have all 21st-century connectivity featuring HDMI 2.0a, better contrast, resolution, and color – apparently, no other player is even close to it right now.
Apart from this, Samsung announced to provide support for firmware upgrades for the SUHD and UHD TVs that were introduced earlier this year. Also, the company is working ahead with the content providers, mostly UDH partners, to present the 4K and UHD environment for the users. Introducing such features would allow the company to have even a bigger footprint for the super-fancy TV market boasting an incredible resolution. Comparing this to what we had almost 15 years ago, the gigantic CRT TVs still reminds us how big the TVs were.
Coming back to our story, Samsung will be providing the firmware upgrades this September featuring the HDMI 2.0a in the UDH and SUHD TVs. The firmware update would allow the users to watch the HDR content without the need of any external devices, which were previously only delivered through the external devices such as a Blu-ray players.
Also, people who do not have a UDH content broadcasting would be able to have the HD images with HDR easily viewable without any external equipment.
The firmware upgrade is appreciable, but when we talk about the world’s first UDH Blu-ray player, Samsung might have to shut down its production in a year or two. We have TVs and connections supporting 4K broadcast, and when we talk about the ‘disks’, it reminds us of the old age.
Apparently, people do not even prefer buying the disks for the gaming consoles but use the well-equipped Internet connection and storage devices to purchase them online.
