China has a lot of reason to be proud these days, what with tennis player carrying the Chinese banner high after bringing down favorites at the U.S. Open. Just two days after bringing down Agnieszka Radwanska, Peng defeated Roberta Vinci 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the round of 16.
Peng now finds herself meeting either 14th seed Lucie Safarova or 22nd seed Alize Comet. Should she hurdle either, Peng will get a chance to advance further to the Grand Slam quarterfinals.
Her breakthrough and surprising performance has somewhat made up for the absence of Li Na who is out with a knee injury. But to continue her giant-killing ways, Peng admits that she will need “more courage” to get by either of the higher seeded players. But with momentum on her side, things are looking good for the Chinese player.

Peng was unable to get past the second round in the previous two years but has gained headway after her Wimbledon run this Summer. Peng did not meet any seeded players in the first three rounds but eventually bowed to eventual champion Petra Kvitova in straight sets.
