Apple’s iPhone 15 range is running into problems ahead of release, and it seems one of them is now going to affect the new iPhones’ release.
According to leaker Revegnus, Apple’s flagship iPhone 15 Pro Max will now be delayed up to a month due to supply chain problems:
Revegnus adds that while precise details remain thin on the ground, they have heard that Sony “is using a more advanced node in the process [for the sensor], which is causing yield issues.”
This is not the first time we have had warning about supply chain issues with Sony’s image sensors. Earlier this week, respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo warned that the iPhone 15 Pro Max “mass production schedule lags behind other models.” But Kuo has also written that he didn’t expect the model to go on sale later than other iPhone 15 models.

Of course, there are semantics involved here. Apple could still put the iPhone 15 Pro Max on sale at the same time as the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro, but actual deliveries may happen significantly later.
With the iPhone 15 range expected to be announced on September 12, put up for pre-order on the 15th and in hands the subsequent week, this could mean the iPhone 15 Pro Max won’t reach that stage until late October. And this is all the more striking because the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be the standout addition to this year’s iPhone lineup.
The iPhone 15 and iPhone 14 Plus will essentially be versions of the iPhone 14 Pros, complete with an A16 chip, 48-megapixel primary camera and Dynamic Island design. Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Pros will have super thin bezels, a stronger, lighter titanium chassis, Thunderbolt4 speeds and a next-gen 3nm A17 chip, but iPhone 15 Pro Max will be alone in getting Apple’s first periscopic zoom lens, which is tipped to be the highlight of the event.
Tempering this are multiple reports that Apple will increase the price of the Pro models, with a $100 rise for the iPhone 15 Pro and a bigger $200 jump for the iPhone 15 Pro Max. All of this gives potential Pro Max upgraders a worrying dilemma: commit to a bigger purchase immediately or risk missing out on a limited supply of units. Something which could impact orders for several months. The choice is yours.
