The NBA is not so different from the movie industry. There are stars, lesser stars, and supporting players – and each has a role to play. 
Everyone knows who the A-List stars are. LeBron James is a household name, no different from Will Smith. On the other hand, there are B-List stars with plenty of talent as well. 
Often, the best movies feature one of those A-List talents. On the other hand, some quality films opt to stack B-List actors as well. They may not win the Oscar, but they’re likely to be entertaining. 
Throughout history, some NBA teams have taken this approach as well. We’ve seen teams opt to roster several lower-tier stars in the absence of one of the league’s top dogs.
