Building an NBA contender is difficult. This isn’t NBA 2K – there are no difficulty sliders to adjust. Even the league’s best general managers can’t find a way to make everything they want become reality.
Sometimes, a team can appear to be a missing piece away. They’re strong in multiple positions but have one glaring hole remaining on their roster. In that case, it’s easy to see the path forward but harder to actually follow it.
Other times, a team has two incompatible pieces. Perhaps they roster two starting caliber big men, for example. In that event, landing on a decision can be difficult enough before even considering how to execute it.
The Charlotte Hornets are in the former camp. They need a starting center, and it’s obvious. Meanwhile, the Atlanta Hawks are in the latter group.
