IPCC report: Climate change is our fault, will affect “our kids and grandkids”

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) met in Copenhagen, Denmark this weekend to provide a fourth report on the group’s findings from the last 13 months. “Science has spoken. There is no ambiguity in their message. Leaders must act. Time is not on our side,” said UN Secretary General Ban-Ki Moon.

What were the findings from the Climate Change Panel? The panel found that global warming is occurring, that it is humanity’s fault, and that humanity has the resources to stop global warming. Of the resources humanity has at its disposal is the human will to change: “We have the means to limit climate change. All we need is the will to change, which we trust will be motivated by knowledge and an understanding of the science of climate change,” said IPCC chairman Rajendra Pachauri.

US State Secretary and former US Presidential candidate John Kerry said that the world’s decision to continue burning coal and fossil fuels would lead to genuine environmental trouble down the road: “The bottom line is that our planet is warming due to human actions, the damage is already visible, and the challenge requires ambitious, decisive and immediate action. Those who choose to ignore or dispute the science so clearly laid out in this report do so at great risk for all of us and for our kids and grandkids.”

The IPCC was established in 1988, and this weekend’s findings comprise 30,000 climate change studies conducted by the panel since the 1950s. The results of those findings show that the climate situation that exists currently has been created by the negligence of humanity and humanity’s failure to heed earlier warnings and work towards better conservation of our natural resources.

As for what humanity can do to improve the current global warming problem on the horizon, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says that improving our energy efficiency, and resorting to solar and wind energy instead of coal and fossil fuels could dramatically reduce the global warming risk. Of course, using these resources would result in a negligible economic decline of 0.06%.

The UN climate negotiations continue next month in Lima, Peru, before the 2015 climate change conference in Paris, France where the UN will adopt a worldwide agreement on climate change action.

  • I believe everything published was very logical. However, what about this?
what if you composed a catchier title? I ain’t suggesting your content is not solid.,
but what if you added a headline to possibly get folk’s attention? I mean IPCC report:
Climate change is our fault, will affect “our kids and grandkids” is a little boring.
