Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Part 2 To Be Released On Its 25th Anniversary

Square Enix is conducting a Final Fantasy 7 webcast next week to commemorate the game’s 25th anniversary, and many fans are expecting to catch a look of Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Part 2 during the stream.

The stream will take place on the publisher’s YouTube and Twitch channels on June 16 at 3 p.m. Pacific / 6 p.m. Eastern / 11 p.m. UK (so June 17 at 9am AEDT).

What’s New?

Square Enix has yet to reveal what it will reveal during the ten-minute live, but it has promised fans “a first peek at all the information surrounding Final Fantasy 7’s 25th anniversary.”

While fans may be hoping for news on the long-awaited Remake: Part 2, it’s worth remembering that Square Enix is already working on many spin-offs of the classic PlayStation RPG, and could merely be presenting fresh details on those. Tetsuya Nomura, the director of the Final Fantasy VII remake, stated last month that Square Enix would announce “different things” during an anniversary event, but he didn’t elaborate.

Further spin-offs are also in the works, with Nomura stating in January that “there will be even more new Final Fantasy 7 projects that started off after the remake coming in the future too.” This milestone marks a turning point in Final Fantasy 7’s development, and the team is looking forward to even bigger things in the future.”

Although Remake: Part 2 was revealed to be in full development in July 2020, Square Enix has remained tight-lipped about the sequel. “Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s tedious padding and complicated additions can lead it to stumble,” IGN noted in its 8/10 review of Part 1, “yet it nonetheless breathes exciting new life into a classic while standing as a brilliant RPG all its own.”
