Apple in rumors to shave of headphone jack for thinnest ever iPhone

Rumors mills for the upcoming iPhones have churned out a significant news about Apple ditching the conventional 3.5mm audio jack to make the smartphone even slimmer than ever before. After the MacBook, it is probably the time when the Cupertino giant is going to shed some ports on the ‘Balance-Sheet’ driver. Reports suggest that the Lightning Port will now be used as both the data and audio transfer port with Apple Earpod having the jack to connect.

MacOtakara rumors claim that the Apple is going away from the headphone jack to make the iPhone even slimmer; however, that might impact the battery size and eventually its life. iPhone 6 has a thickness of 6.9mm with a little bump of 0.3 mm in the successor. However, the argument now is why people need such a slim form factor when it isn’t comfortable to hold in the hand.

Other than that, if the iPhone lands with the Lightning port as a headphone jack – all of the existing headphones will start requiring an additional port to connect, or going Bluetooth is the only option not to have an extra set of ports in the pocket. This also means that you cannot charge the device while listening to music and vice versa.

Assuming all of the rumors to be true, Apple has some major reasons to do this. First, the company will ask all of the headphone makers to design iPhone Lightning port compatible headphones, and also there can be possibilities of the smart headphones appearing the market as over the port they will have a direct digital connection.

On the flip side, it will be a lot frustrating for anyone having a premium set of headphones, and using them over the port will somehow degrade the sound quality. Also, the headphone jack Apple planning to shave off has been in the industry for more than a century and can cause trouble for anyone having the standard the 3.5 mm jack headphone. It is a little against the user experience for having port stick out of the lightning connector to connect the headphones.
