Apple grants customers option to delete free U2 album

Following dozens of petitions to have U2’s newest album ‘Songs of Innocence’ removed from their iTunes library, Apple has confirmed they are willing to give their customers the tools to do so.

The tech company had millions of users fuming when U2’s latest record suddenly appeared on everybody’s iTunes library folder as part of the firm’s new promotional plan following the announcement of the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus.

What made Apple fans so mad was the fact that the album took up quite a lot of storage, and for someone who doesn’t like the band to have to put up with storage loss certainly made no sense. It didn’t take long before people were threatening to boycott the new iPhones if the album wasn’t removed from their library.

Note that Apple did not give their customers the option to delete the U2 album, prompting users to write: “I really resent this U2 album that’s appeared on me phone. Arrogant and presumptuous!!” while another wrote: “Is this U2 album thing designed to teach people how to delete things from their iCloud?”

Apple has since granted iTunes owners to remove the album following the instructions found here.

Nevertheless, it took an entire week for the tech giant to answer people’s answers. But like they say, it’s better to wait patiently for a change than never, right?

Rapper, Tyler the Creator, had a huge influence in Apple’s decision in allowing users to remove the album from their library, after a series of tweets read: “GET OFF MY F–KING PHONE. YOU COULDNT COME UP WITH AN ACTUAL MARKETING IDEA? F–K @U2 I DONT WANT YOU. F–K BONO. I DIDNT ASK FOR YOU IM MAD.”

“WOW, ITS KINDA SICK THAT THEY ARE ON PEOPLES PHONE OUT OF NO WHERE……HMMM….I KINDA LIKE THE IDEA KINDA……F–K BONO,” Tyler added.

Apple spent a whopping $100 million for U2 to agree on the deal to have their full album be inserted into every person’s iTunes library, but the plans have somewhat failed now that millions of people will be getting rid of it.
