The initial trailer of “Udta Punjab”, which is scheduled for release on June 17, 2016, has been released. What is the nemesis of Punjab and Mexico? Well, it is not very hard to guess, Drugs!! It is the subject of the latest film “Udta Punjab” by filmmaker Abhishek Chaubey’s.
The opening statement of the film makes the theme of the film amply clear, 70 per cent of Punjab youth is into drug addiction, and if not stopped, Punjab could become another Mexico.
The film tackles a burning issue which is omnipresent in one of the most prosperous states of the country but is always talked about in hush- hush tones. No political party is even ready to accept that there is a problem and is quick to pass the buck to the previous government.
It is refreshing to see someone like Abhishek Chaubey to have the guts to delve into such a contentious issue. Drug addiction among youth in Punjab is at the core of the film “Udta Punjab”. It not only delves on how the menace is making the state hollow but it also explores the modus operandi of drug trafficking in Punjab and how the network has spread.

The film features Shahid Kapoor and ex-flame Kareena Kapoor after a long nine years hiatus. Shahid Kapoor essays the role of a Rock Star while Alia Bhatt portrays the role of a migrant girl from Bihar. Kareena Kapoor is once again back in a tailor-made the role of a doctor which she had earlier portrayed so well in Three Idiots.
Ever since the rushes of the film have been released, the excitement and expectation of the film have reached sky high. Shahid, who is playing the role of Tommy Singh, who is embroiled in drug controversies, had posted a selfie on Instagram with a ripped body. Speculation was high if it was how he will look from his upcoming film.
