US is looking to accelerate disease cures, re-enacts revised 21st century cures act

The lawmakers in the United States has taken a bold step to ensure that the health laws of the country are keeping pace with the current health care needs of its residents. Recently, the revised version of the 21st Century Cures Act has been approved by a House Energy & Commerce Subcommittee. This act has been passed with the aim of escalating the speed of medical breakthroughs and cures.

Fred Upton, the chairperson of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, commenced the above-mentioned act together with Diana Degette, a Ranking Member of the Investigations Subcommittee.

Upton informed that this is the first time in the lawmaking history of America Congress has taken such a step. Before this, Congress has never looked in and identified factors that play key roles in accelerating the speed of cures in the country.

He further said that he has plans of checking the whole process for finding out the clues in basis science and the process of developing devices and drugs and thereby ensure the strength of digital medicines administered at high velocity.

The willingness and effort of revising the 21st Century Cures Act and making the bill more useful for patients have been appreciated by the AACR or American Association for Cancer Research. Here, it must be mentioned that this enactment has been possible only because of the months of dialogues between the patients, researchers, regulators, consumers, innovators and, of course, the eminent members of Congress.

During this process, other than submitting white papers, the committee has undergone as many as eight hearings and more than two dozens of roundtable conferences. All those conferences and hearings have allowed the committee to generate effective ideas for the proposal.

The American Association for Cancer Research supported the committee that submitted the revised version of the 21st Century Cures Act and also played a part in approving it. To put it more bluntly, the act was approved collectively by the AACR and the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

The American Association for Cancer Research said that they have decided to work together with the House Energy and Commerce Committee for enabling advanced and sophisticated basic clinical research while abiding by the rules set by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
