Tesla CEO Elon Musk calls artificial intelligence a demon or terminator

Elon Musk, the chief executive officer of Tesla Motors, is not happy with the growing use of artificial intelligence or AI. According to him, AI is posing the biggest threat to the survival of mankind.

Musk made this comment when he was talking about space exploration, colonization of Mars, computer science and AI during an interview at MIT’s AeroAstro Centennial Symposium.

Musk believes that the human race should be extremely careful about AI; he said that if anyone asks him to guess what is the most serious existential threat for the humans he will definitely pick AI as his answer.

When talking to the students from MIT, Musk further said that he thinks that it’s high time to have some kind of regulatory oversight, both at the international and national level, to ensure that the humans don’t end up making foolish, but serious mistakes. To make people understand the ill effects of encouraging artificial intelligence, Musk has compared AI with demon.

For those who are not aware of the position of Elon Musk in the world of technology: the Tesla CEO is often compared to Tony Stark, the Iron Man, for the role he plays as a cutting-edge tech expert. Musk is other than being the CEO of electric vehicle manufacturing company Tesla Motors has also founded the space transport services company SpaceX. SpaceX is the first company to have a private contract with NASA for resupplying the ISS (International Space Station).

Musk when talking about the investments he has made in Artificial Intelligence research, said that he has spent money only to stay up to date with the events taking place and not with the expectation of getting big returns.

The interview at MIT’s AeroAstro Centennial Symposium also saw the Tesla CEO saying that the achievement of reaching Mars through singular missions is something extremely commendable. He added that the colonization of the planet will play a vital role in changing our future. According to Musk, scientists should look to build a self-sustaining society on the red planet; he even mentioned that no one is trying to do anything like that besides SpaceX.

Musk also has his name in the list of high-profile investors in Vicarious, the company looking to assemble a computer with the ability to think like human beings. The other big names on the list include Ashton Kutcher, the famous actor, and Mark Zuckerberg, the current CEO and co-founder of Facebook.
