Deinocheirus mirificus is the latest word in the science community as scientists have now studied, and found, the remains of a dinosaur that might be the most bizarre to date. Originally, scientists found remains 50 years ago, which originally were thought to belong to a massive, and terrifying dinosaur.
Fast-forward 50 years, and that was almost entirely reversed. In fact, the best scientists can do is call it goofy and weird. It was found that the dinosaur was 16 feet tall, and 36 feet long. But, don’t let its size make you feel threatened. Scientists describe the large animal as a cross between Barney and Jar Jar Binks from Star Wars. The dinosaur weighed 7 tons, had a duckbill on its head, and a sail on its back.
It didn’t act very terrifying, either. Scientists revealed that the massive creature ate like a massive vacuum cleaner. It comes from the same family as the modern-day ostrich, and in many ways can be considered just as awkward. “Deinocheirus turned out to be one of the weirdest dinosaurs beyond our imagination,” author Yuong-Nam Lee said.
The scientists went on to point out that it’s important to not jump to conclusions when evaluating creatures like this. In many ways, it was a leap that due to the size, the creature would be violent, but in fact, the complete opposite was true. Sometimes, the scientists remind, it isn’t always what you think.
The monstrous dinosaur was definitely a slow mover. It had a beak that could work on plants, but it also had a massive tongue that acted like a vacuum and sucked up food from bottoms of streams, lakes, and ponds. The scientists also went on to note that kids will one day call this their “favorite dinosaur,” but that those kids will be individuals with a unique sense of humor due to the incredible oddity that the creature presents.

It’s clear that this isn’t a tyrannosaurus rex, or any other well-known, and comparably “normal” looking dinosaur. In fact, it’s entirely the opposite. This is a strange dinosaur that right now, a lot is known, but still is so different than what any scientist expected, that the entire science community is just sitting back and soaking it in.

One thing is definitely clear, the scientists were not kidding when they said things are not always as they seem, when it comes to speculating on various bits of history.
