Captain America: ‘Civil War’ nabs fifth best opening ever

According to studio estimates from comScore, with a massive collection of 181.8 million dollars this weekend, Captain America: Civil War becomes the fifth -highest opening and knocking Iron Man 3 from the same spot.

The latest Disney/Marvel creation ranked just right below Marvel’s The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron, which holds third and fourth position respectively. while Jurassic world is on second and Disney’s all-time champ ‘Star Wars’ is on the top with 248 million USD.

It is the third marvel’s movie in the top five after The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron

The sequel nearly doubles the opening of the previous “Captain America” film “ The Winter Soldier” which earned 95 USD in its opening week, in April 2014. Attributing to the fact that “Civil War” is an Avengers movie in disguise.

After earning 75 million USD on the first day, the movie was expected to collect around 180 million dollars in the weekend. The movie was well received by the critics and now by audiences who gave a promising ‘A’ CinemaScore to the film, which will work well for the film’s longevity.

Captain America cost 250 million dollars to produce and has already surpassed that by its overall collection. The movie earned 678.4 million dollars globally till date, because of strong international opening last weekend. Paul Dergarabedian, a senior media analyst of comScore, said: “the movie is well on its way for becoming a billion dollar movie”.
